President Eisenhower established Law Day in 1958 to mark our nation's commitment to the rule of law. In 1961, Congress designated May 1 as the official date for Law Day. Every president since has issued a Law Day proclamation on May 1 to celebrate our nation's commitment to the rule of law.

Living Wills and HIPAA Release Forms

Many individuals do not have a living will, which is also known as an advance medical directive. "The ramifications of not having one are so severe that it's bewildering that more people don't do it," says Howard Krooks, former president of the National Academy of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. The living will allows you to convey your own health-care wishes in the event you become incapacitated. Living wills are not only important for seniors, but young adults should also consider putting their desires in such a document. In addition, once an individual is age 18, they should consider signing a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) release form and a medical power of attorney or health care-proxy giving a parent or other adult the right to have access to medical records/ information and most importantly to make medical decisions for them in the event of an emergency.
